UKGRS Wins UberASSIST Contract

UK Global Road Safety (UKGRS) are proud to announce that we have been selected to develop and deliver training for Uber’s UberASSIST option to support people with disabilities.

The popular car booking app has recently expanded it's UberASSIST option for riders who need a little extra help. For those with limited mobility, visual impairments, folding wheelchairs, walkers and scooters or other disabilities, UberASSIST enables them to easily book a licensed private hire driver at the touch of a button. Drivers are all top-rated and have received training to be able to best support the those who need extra assistance.

UberASSIST requires no advance booking and the fares are priced the same as Uber's other options, making this a convenient and affordable choice for people with disabilities. Currently UberASSIST is available in 15 cities including: Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Portsmouth, Sheffield & Southampton.

Uber approached UKGRS to design a bespoke training programme that addresses how drivers who use the app should interact with people that have disabilities. Training covers correct language, how to guide people with visual disabilities, the law as it relates to assistance dogs and general etiquette.

This means that drivers for UberASSIST will have the knowledge and confidence to offer the highest quality service and care to their passengers. Training has already been rolled out in fourteen major cities across the UK, with hundreds of drivers attending a half-day session with our highly experienced driver trainers.

UKGRS Director Jane Sneddon, the programme designer, said “We are pleased that Uber approached us to create this training programme with their specific content, it gave both parties the opportunity to work together on this valuable project. Feedback from the training team has been extremely positive, trainees claimed that the course was remarkably informative and they took a lot away from the programme which will help them provide the level of service that Uber clients deserve”.

UKGRS are looking forward to further rollouts across the country.
