Theresa May: Young drivers could face new restrictions after passing test
February 9, 2018
Teresa May has suggested that changes to the driver licencing process may see Learners face a graduated licence system. The issue was raised by Jenny Chapman, Labour MP for Darlignton
The Prime Minister responded to proposals in the House and said she would look at the issue of a “graduated licensing system” .
Graduated licencing exists in various forms throughout the world but it generally places restrictions on new drivers, including bans on driving at night, limiting the number of passengers in a vehicle and revising maximum speeds.
The suggestion is that when young drivers have acquired enough experience on the road in a variety of environments and built up skills gradually – in a structured approach – will they be able to apply and acquire a full driving licence.
